HOGGIN ALBERTA VETERAN RANCH-

ANNOUNCEMENT

Over a decade ago, a group of like-minded people dedicated their time to volunteer to arrange

meet ups/events, provide and enjoy camaraderie. In a very short time, the group became known

as “Hoggin Alberta”, led by Ray McKay. The meet ups became more frequent, and it was at the

evening gatherings around the campfire that the subject of helping others was discussed.

Soon the topic of conversation was Veterans, active serving personnel of the armed forces, first

responders and their families. It was discussed what help they may need and how the help could

be provided. It was unanimously decided that they would focus on providing support ranging

from basic life essentials such as food, clothing, help with utility bills etc.

The Hoggin Alberta following grew exponentially, which enabled them to expand their ability to

provide individuals, or accompanied by their families to enjoy some simple rest and recuperation

in nature (camping, fishing etc.) at the original Hoggin Alberta Ranch and subsequently, Hoggin

Alberta Veterans Ranch in collaboration with a Calgary based charity.

Much to everyone’s surprise the collaboration ended in March 2023, resulting in the demise of

the Hoggin Alberta Veterans Ranch. Rather than dwell on the time, money invested and the way

the separation was initiated! A group of the Hoggin Alberta members chose to take opportunity

this sour experience and chose to use learned in 2023, to rethink, regroup, and evolve.

In order to ensure 2023 is not repeated, we have applied for Nonprofit Incorporation. I am

pleased to announce in partnership with The Rendez-Vous de l'Espoir we have 161 Acres to create

a Hoggin Alberta Veterans Ranch.

The Hoggin Alberta Veterans Ranch will operate be established on the principles of:

Transparency, Shared Values, Integrity and Commitment.

Just as the Phoenix rose from the ashes,

Hoggin Alberta is ready to move forward and continue to provide support to

Veterans, active serving personnel of the armed forces, first responders and

their families

  • Massage therapy (therapeutic massage) is a set of complementary manual techniques based on a holistic conception of the person and framed by educational intervention processes. The discipline aims to assess the soft tissues (e.g. skin, muscles) and joints of the body (e.g. tendons, ligaments, joint capsules) in order to treat and prevent injuries, pain or other physical dysfunctions that may occur in an individual. It also aims to promote health.

The American Horticultural Therapy Association defines horticultural therapy as the engagement of an individual or group in gardening and plant-based activities, facilitated by a trained therapist, to achieve specific therapeutic goals.

  • Orthotherapy is an amalgam of a wide variety of therapeutic manual techniques, mainly from physiotherapy and massage therapy. Orthotherapy intervenes mainly on the muscular and articular systems and aims at the proper functioning of the musculoskeletal system. In fact, the prefix ortho- means "straight" or "correct "1, which expresses the idea of correcting the posture at the basis of orthotherapy
